ok first off its been in the sub 0 temps here the last week. but the problem is right behind the spedo this morning started making a grinding (kinda like sticking a piece of paper in a fan) noise and the spedo is acting funny, showing that im going 40+ when im creeping along at under 5. im kinda thinking that with the cold weather maybe the spedo cable broke loose? any other thoughts?

I had that happen on a car a long time ago...I can't remember which one but all it needed a little lube inside the cable...might've been a motorcycle.

Yeah, right Chris. When was the last time you saw sub zero temps in Tennessee? But as usual you're right again, speedo cable noise. You can lube it to reduce the noise, just ignore it (like I do, it's unlikely it'll break) or do like my brother in law, the used car dealer, and disconnect it. Going subzero here for the first time tonight and I'm going to San Diego next week to see BSU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

It's been a few years ago but we had -10F at night to +10F daytime temps for a week...froze & bursted water lines all over the city...the plumbers made out pretty good that week.
I was driving the World's Ugliest Pick-up Truck during that period...a beat out, noisey big 'ol 70 GMC 3/4 ton 4WD. It was safe too. Nobody followed too close because they didn't know what might fall off it onto the road and nobody pulled out in front of you because they just KNEW it had no brakes. It was a good truck though with a good running engine and big ol' drum brakes that stopped great.
Hadda Cadillac radio too...lol

im thinking its just the cold, cause once it warms up(the defroster) it goes away, so now i just run it and guess my speed while covering the noise with the raido
