Thanks to Mr. Bush or whomever you choose to blame I have some time on my hands. I want to take off & see what I can see. My first thoughts were to go to the Black Hills & see Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Geronimo. Since the weather that way is not good, I've decided to go southwest. I'm rolling from Chicago. I'm worried about my bottom feeder '98 , 3.8 series II dealing with the desert heat without the lower air dam. Is this a big deal not getting the cooling air kicked up over my rad? I've looked at my local junk yards & other local cars for sale with no luck. There all gone. I'm not even sure they were there at all.

My question is can I take my Chicago, Intrigue, U&L intakes done, down south without the lower air deflector?

Well, I'd do it. I dont think it would be a tremendous problem. If the weather is going to be that hot, you'll probably be running the air conditioner anyway right? and if thats the case your fans will be on, or at least they should be.

As long as the rest of your cooling system is up to par, I wouldnt think it would be a big deal.

Does it run hot at all now?

A new air dam is like $27 from the dealer. If you think it's an issue just replace it, although I think you will be fine without it. Are you planning to stay til July?

How nice that the internet police busted you, but never offered any help. I purchased a new air dam from the dealer for around $65.00 last year thanks to a opossum that ran in front of me (oops I probably shouldn't lay blame on others that I can't substantiate) For the price of $65.00 I would just replace it and have piece of mine while your on your trip, GM put it there for a reason.

An air dam can be made with a simple sheet metal, aluminum or other sutable matterials for a few dollars. :2cents:

Sorry it took so long to check back but I'm not being emailed telling me that there were reply's to my post.

No, it's not running hot at all, it's under half way on the gauge. I've just wondered in general if it's needed & since it may be more critical in warmer temps, I thought I'd ask.

I kind of assumed that the dealer would be very expensive, for $27 I wouldn't hesitate, $65 is even quite a bit less than I thought it would be. I will call tomorrow to get a price. Like willieray3 said, it's there for a reason.

I've thought about making one but couldn't figure out a way with my resources to make it as forgiving as it needs to be without having one in hand.

I'm confident that it's about as mechanically sound as I can get it but I'm wondering what ya'll (goin' south, gotta talk the talk:) ) think of the tires that are on it: Bridgestone BT70S P225/60R16, treadwear 480 traction A temp B with only about 15,000 miles. I've heard some negative talk about Bridgestones.

Too much back tracking or I'd hit the Alamo Bowl to see Northwestern beat Missouri then Outback to see Iowa beat South Carolina. Singles should be cheap at each of those.

Happy Holidays to all.

I believe I had the same tires a set ago and if I remember correctly the only issue I had was that they were a little noisey, the Bridgestone/Firestone tires were a popular brand when the quality was good, but like everything now quality seems to take a back seat to the overall cost. If you got good tread you should be fine, make sure you gotta a spare and get a AAA card, the discounts you can get while your on your road trip can cover the cost for a year of service, not to mention in a worse case senerio you need a tow. Have a blast on your trip!
