My first MFH kit! Lots of metal, Resin, Brass wheels and photoetch......

The real deal except I am doing the #86 car.......

http://images46.fotki.com/v1413/photos/3/335511/7014838/Ferrari312PB_2-vi.jpg

Cleaned up the metal boxster 12 cylinder with steel wool and metal polish.

http://images48.fotki.com/v1412/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010055-vi.jpg

Wheels and tires done minus scuffing the tread. Wheels are brass turned pieces. Firestone logos are stencils...

http://images45.fotki.com/v1310/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010056-vi.jpg

Chassis is also metal cleaned with steel wool and lightly polished. Then cleared with metalizer sealer.Nothing like real metal!!

http://images43.fotki.com/v1383/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010059-vi.jpg

Body parts are resin and metal for scoops and small accessories. All was cleaned up and shot with white plastikote primer and painted with Rosso Corsa from scalefinishes. Cleared with dupont 2k.

Great choice of model (you'll have plenty of details on this one), and a superb start! You are on a roll wit Ferraris these days! :)

Wow, great start Dave, engine is absolutly convincing: I must purchase some metal polish.

Bodywork's paint is in your own rich/thick style that is not fully accurate to me for 60/70 proto (those cars just "dreamed" a bit of paint more, and mostly paint was damaged by fuel, solvent... all we see restored now is in "museum oustanding standard/concourse standard" finishing), but is just a thing of tastes: I guess mostly like it superbly finished like is now.

I love this model so much: one of the better MFH to me if not the better with the Alfa 33 series. I'm avid to see more now!

This is going to awesome to watch MFH sure produced an excellent kit of this car. I have a Profile24 312PB and its nothing like this kit.

Nice work so far. That Hiro white metal is a real bitch to polish. I did the uprights and suspension arms on my Hiro 1/24th 312F1. It took hours after sanding since I made them look like chrome. I want to do the Targa or Sebring car with my Hiro 312PB kit.

More done.....

Engine is in place... Again, keep in mind anything that is silver here is the white metal that has been polished or finessed in some way. Plug wires are from Pro tech and the clear tube is craft clear bead wire. The kit comes with all of this but I think the plug wires are too narrow in the kit and they shorted me the clear tubing.

http://images45.fotki.com/v1422/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010061-vi.jpg

Front headlights buckets were carefully painted with Acryl semi gloss black.

http://images47.fotki.com/v1401/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010062-vi.jpg

The gas tank covers are Photoetch plates I scuffed to match the rest of the metal underside.

beautiful work so far
I realize the point of model car building, is to have as much realism as possilbe, but your work is spot on

Excellent stuff. Ya know this finish you get on your bodywork is probably already too good in comparison to the real ones back in the day :-)

It is, I noticed they were rough fiberglass underneath...

I have seen some restored examples that look just as good, but I am sure you are correct about the originals!

You're building a Carbon Fiber FXX and you still find time to tackle a kit from MFH. :eek7:
Everything looks great so far. I love watching these kits come together.

Thanks!!!

More progress....

Ignition system installation has begun along with front end detail. The fire bottle was added. Kind of suprising the MFH kit did not include it.

Thanks guys.... more done....

Entire front suspension is done along with the seat assembly......

http://images46.fotki.com/v1416/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010084-vi.jpg

Entire front suspension is all in the kit except brake lines that were done using protech braid.

http://images42.fotki.com/v1380/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010085-vi.jpg

The kit provides decal to do the design on the seats. I painted the seat with krylon suede it to provide texture. Then covered it in cherry red krylon spray. Once decals were added I dullcoated the seat and added pro tech bolts and kit seatbelts and hardware.

Dave, looks terrific.
Tell me more about steel wool - can you get into tight places? Does the finish equals actually sanding and polishing the metal, or is it just brightens it? Can you get rig of the moulding texture with it?

To a point Alex, its very difficult even with steel wool to get all the cast finish out. It is a touch and go area. But I use steel wool and "Flitz" metal polish as a team to get it to where it is now.

F1 Tommy: I will add a very loght wash, I do not want this to look like the original rather a "Restored" version so I will not be weathering it heavily. The paint is already too nice as others have pointed out.

Thanks all!!!

Fantastic job. I would see a drop of matt clear on "brass" parts (yellow clear over metal) and it would be perfect for me. BUt you know: we're ever perfectionist at die on other's models :D :D LOL

Thanks guys.. I decided to move forward on the 312.....

The chassis is now on rolling stock........

http://images45.fotki.com/v1430/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010029-vi.jpg

Lots done to get it to the point I could add the tires and wheels...as you can see the Trans and rear suspension are complete. This has to be the coolest kit I have ever worked with. Metal clean up is exasperating at times but worth it..... I added the exhaust after clean up, painted with white primer and weathered with tamiya D exhaust pastel kit.

http://images45.fotki.com/v1429/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010031-vi.jpg
http://images42.fotki.com/v1373/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010030-vi.jpg

Great shot of the undercarriage and exhaust weathering. I Know most raced PB's had bare metal exhaust but I am going for the restored look of the car and most restored examples are pristine paint and white exhaust.

http://images43.fotki.com/v1437/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010032-vi.jpg

With front bonnet installed. Fit is OK not perfect....

http://images43.fotki.com/v1438/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010033-vi.jpg

Cooler detail still in the works on both sides of engine......

http://images47.fotki.com/v1398/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010034-vi.jpg

The rear engine lid fit is gappy, but I imagine will spend most of the time off the car to display the beautiful engine.. a sacrifice I can live with..... :)

http://images45.fotki.com/v1430/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010035-vi.jpg

Notice the blue on the wing and headrest pod match the decals? I painted the parts with Tamiya brilliant blue followed by HOK kandy kobalt to darken it. The candy allowed me to control the hue of the shade of blue to get it spot on!

http://images47.fotki.com/v1401/photos/3/335511/7014838/P1010036-vi.jpg

Beautiful work Dave. Its a shame about the body fit. I'm getting more and more displeased with Hiro's parts fit with every kit I build.
