Ignition Problem

Hey guys, new to the forums. Just coming by to see if anybody here has any info for me on my car problem. I am driving a 1995 Crown Vic LX and today the car decided it didn't want to shut off anymore. So I pull into my driveway, go to turn off the car and take out the key, but the ignition is really loose and just spins back, but wont shut off. They key comes out when I put the ignition into the off position, but it does not stop the engine from running. I was just wondering if you guys had heard of this or dealt with it personally, and could be of assistance to me. Right now the car is out on the driveway locked up with no keys in it, running.

Thanks,

Pat

You need to get the engine stopped. Then put key in switch and turn to the on position. There is a little hols under where the key is. PPlace a small object in the hole and push up on a locking pin. Pull out on the ignition cylinder at the same time. You may want to do this with the battery disconnected. See if the cylinder is broken. If it is, you can buy another cylinder fairly cheaply. It is also possible the ignition switch bolted to the column has also become loose. There is a rod that runs from the key cylinder to the switch on the column. Check these too. Let us know.

Basically there are 3 factors on how to locate the problem. These are spark (check distributor, plug wires, plugs), fuel (fuel filter, pump and injectors), lastly air (check intake sensors). Make sure the starter works fine as well...
