Wheel hubs / Tie rods

I have a 99 intrigue that I'm fairly certain needs new front tie rods and wheel hub assemblies. I'm an industrial mechanic but I don't know much about cars. Is replacing the wheel hub and rods difficult? How much time might it take? Are there any specific tools i should expect to need?

I'm short on cash and i can get the replacement front end parts for about $350 from Auto-zone as apposed to the $1200 quote the shop gave me so I'd rather do it myself if at all possible.

Any hints or tips would be much appreciated!

There are a couple of very helpful walkthroughs on both of these on Automotive forums under "Tips and Maintainance" at the top of the Intrigue forum. This links to the Grand Prix forum. Both of these walkthroughs are written about Grand Prixs but they use the exact same platform. I can personally verify that outer tie rod replacement is exactly the same because I used this write up to replace the outer tie rods on my Intrigue just last Friday. I am 95% sure that the hub replacement would be the same as well.

Good luck!

doublecheck your prices at rockauto.com and/or gmpartsdirect.com

Rotors due to the weight are usually cheaper locally.

Panzer's suggestion of using rockauto is great. I've also found that you can get fairly good deals on brake rotors and pads (AcDelco) from Amazon. For the past few months they have had free shipping, and yes that included rotors. Searching Amazon requires having the part number for AcDelco which can be obtained from a variety of part catalogs.
