HI guys. I needed from ages a couple of stress releasing project to break some hard jobs.
I started 3 work together: a couple NSX and this Lexus 430 test for the 2006 season.
Almost box stock except few jobs and some detail in the interior that are really disappointing....never see a so HI level speaking of lack of details :D
I'm using the Crazy Super GT 430 set , it's great but you'll need/desire just a good 30% of the details and some other you will like (interiors) are missed. I'm speaking for example of those PE disc in thousand parts that you can't see than....
Decals are from the Shunko 430 test sheet. I felt them great, with a good coverage.
Carbon decals are the worst I would use: but I got a couple old set I wanted to finish, so I used the S27 sets: I know in advance they're hard like cardboard but at least , with the help of the Micro Sol/Set and the new (for me) Model Master solvent, and a good hairdryer, I felt usable.

No much other words in my rude english :D

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/SCGT04.jpg

You will quick note a couple things: rims are Rays, it's a shame cos the box's stock 16 spokes rims are fantastic: I didn't decided yet : may be they tested the rims too, at last we got few shots of the tests..

I choose the 06 version: it has less graphics but also the model is ready to mount out of the box.

Quick few works I done (after cleaning mold lines and scribing panel lines)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG7811.jpg

Hinges is molded with the body: it wouldn't be hard to mask and paint than but I liked to cut out and do separated.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG7814.jpg

Following you'll just see a fit test, with tack glue

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG7816.jpg

I also removed rivets and drill 0.35 holes to insert the Hobby Design rivets (fantastic stuff I must say, I received also the 430 scud's PE set and it looks convincing too)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG7812.jpg

Same job in front after a filling job on front fenders

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG7813.jpg

Than I primed, painted TS14 (decanted) gloss black teh body, masked, painted Lechler acryl white the A pillars and done the carbon job, than I cleared with the good Vallejo Air Satin clear.

Must of been a pain to cut out all of the CF decal to fit it on the body. I have trouble applying it on the trunk, but this is really awesome. Keep it up!

Would you be so kind and please explain me how did you manage to put on the decals without any
air bubbles under the carbon decals? :eek7:

Thanks guys!

You see something that kept me busy for a whyle, wasn't just ... swipppt... magic :D. First I done templates with tape, than I scanned and put shapes together to optimize decals.

How to avoid air bubbles: (BTW I can't 100% avoid small folds, but I figured how manage them: you'll sand down -4000 micro mesh- and see them disappear since you sand down untile the first layer, under the fold... yes this is really magic!!!)

well, there are not secrets: obviously air bubbles are under your decal if air went under.... to prevent this I just follow MicroScale advices: I use MicroSet before applyng decal (with a bit of water and Sol that is much more tension-active - dunno know if it has sense in english: it's teh skill of break water bubbles, like soap) than decals (sliding them down from the carrier film with a brush, and then start the Sol job (same with teh Model master solvent, before and after)

I love seeing these full-carbon fiber bodies. Great subject choice for your build; keep us posted!

Seems to be a trend to have massive carbon fiber decaljobs done on oddly shaped bodies. I knew you couldnīt resist...

Looks fantastic. I would like to see the clear on it (I know you will choose the correct product and technique to get it right). It will be great, Iīm sure.

Wow, great decal job here !!!

Donīt get me wrong, but some critics here: I am a little bit confused by the appearance of the "model-carbon".

Comparing the photo of the real car and the model I think, another brand of (darker?) carbon-decals might have been better.

(On the last model photos the carbon looks more like it is for 1:20 or 1:12 cars.)

IMO covering the body with Tamiya smoke could improve the appearance.

Hi guys:

@ Robert: the model is still cleared with Vallejo Air Satin, I wondered a bit less matt but at last I knowed in advance this product is just... flat :D. On the other hand the real car has exactly the unreal appeal of the uncoat decals set LOL that we hate, I guess I will keep it with satin.

@ Micha: I will agree, despite if you know the S27 pattern you'll agree that would be better by naked eyes: you can't almost recognize the pattern from 40-50 cm far. BTW I said in advance: I wanted to finish a couple old S27 sets, I ever found tricky to use the S27 carbon, so this was my challange :D. About the color: if you see there's a black cardboard in the background, often it's lighter than the car: I got to use a lot of light and manage the pict on PSD to allow to see the car insthead a black blob :D. Anyway I accept the critcs: for sure I want not use smoke over since I hate those color, I seen superb result around but must be my limit: I'm simply not able to manage Smoke and BMF, in any other fields my skills are decent indeed :D ;)

A good idea may be use smoke (or even better black! LOL) on trasparent to cover up interiors: I seen motorized models with more details :D!

I think the carbon looks great, as I found with my Cobra; applying decals over double curvatures is very tricky even with micro set and a hair dryer, so nice work!

The flat finish is a bit distracting, but the decal job looks fantastic to me - no nips and tucks anywhere, or at least perfectly hidden. One of the best jobs I have seen, though is there a wrinkle or distortion just behind the rear window? Anyway, it's an amazing job Gio, I'm sure it will look phenomenal when finished.

Hi guys
done something on interiors, I cut apart sides and back, added pavement and worked on details:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8175.jpg

I was excited by Rob's tip about microballons: didn't found yet so I tried to add some MiG Pigments to a industrial Lechler acryl and spry those crap at very HI pressure:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8172.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8170.jpg

I was tempted to rend in some way the brake set up levers system....

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/lexus-sc-430-super-gt-04-1.jpg

so.... I used stencil technique to rend white decals and..

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8222.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8224.jpg

I wanted to add also gearbox lever linkage: still unpainted, it would be mounted better when finished

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8225.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8226.jpg

I used Crazy PE set covered by kit's decals, and added few details, still needs switches

Air hoses fitting test

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/sc430test06/CIMG8230.jpg

Seat is finished now, still needs Recaro decs

And now the fun part (that you'll see next time :evillol:) , the attempt to rend the messy racing interior: some connectors for now...

Your concept of "stress releasing" is really funny, Gio

Very good work and approach, nice photoetching.

I must say I love the satin finish. I drive an 07 Mustang Shelby and I ordered it with a satin finish and everyone tells me how amazing it looks. The skill level to do what you have done with those decals is impressive.

Gio what are the washers (red and orange) that you used on the connectors
? Thanks for sharing that how to, never thought it would be that easy. Keep us posted as the interior is starting to look great.

Amazing work Gio! I think it's obvious to everyone here, except maybe you, that you are clearly not capable of doing a straight OOB build! ;)
