Last winter when it was cold ( below 40 ) it would not engage the 4 HI 4 Lo or Auto. The lights would blink and then go back to 2 wheel. Now no matter the temperature it will only stay in 2 wheel.
Has anyone have had this problem and how did you fix it /
Thanks

When you push the button can you hear the TC and front diff actuators trying to work? Sounds like it may be the encoder. Common problem but a fairly pricey part.

No sound out of the ordinary, I just get the flashing light of the led on the button that I push and then it stops flashing and the light on the 2 wheel stays solid.

When you push the button you should hear the 2 electric motors underneath. If not it may be the button switches. Another common problem. I should now, I've had to change both on my 2000 Silverado. lol

No sound of the motors trying to engage. I will bring it to the shop today and ask them to look at the connections on the switches. A few years ago i read on usenet that some people had a similar problem and it was caused by bad solder joints. I will have the shop check that also.

If not working it needs to be put on a transfer case capable scanner and get the codes and do the shift test built into the scanner to find the problem.
Also if not done they need serviced with the GM blue transfer case fluid ever so often.
Post back any codes it has.

Problem solved: Vacuum leaks, the shop replaced the line and problem solved. While they were at it I had them replace a leaking front pinion gasket and do a service on the front and rear differentials, plus an oil change. Total dollar damage $400. Not to bad for a Queens NYC shop.
