2002 Honda Civic creaking noiseranoe 11-28-2008, 03:57 AM I have a 2002 Honda Civic EX. It has developed a creak which happens when I slow down to stop the car or even when I first get in it. It seems like it is about weight shift. I have had new front brakes (including rotors installed) and had new front struts a couple of years ago. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. wreckchord 11-28-2008, 03:59 AM Aloha ranoe: Welcome to the forum. wreckchord 11-28-2008, 03:59 AM Check the shock absorber chome shaft to besure it is clean and not scraping. Check the upper and lower arm bushings for rubber damage, check the compliance bushing for ware and tare. If you can have someone push down on the fender or step up and down on the drivers door sill, try to locate which side, and what unit is making the noise. Go to local auto parts and find a rubber or silicon lubricant and see if the lube takes the creaking away. wreckchord 11-28-2008, 04:00 AM I have seen lower ball joints give a slight creak when the car slows down, best test is to shut off car and stand in front of the car and push on the car bumper up and down and listen for the creak. You can pinpoint the sound by feeling for the vibration on different suspension parts. I have also seen hood latches would cause a clicking sound when they get loose as well. Good luck and post your solution when you find it! ranoe 11-28-2008, 04:02 AM I finally was able to get the car fixed!! It was the lower control arm. I was able to point my mechanic in the right direction because of your responses. The car sounds and handles much better. Thanks for all your help! wreckchord 11-28-2008, 04:03 AM Thanks for your feedback, it always gelps to know we are diagnosing in the right direction. I believe the lower control arm has bushings and a lower ball joint that can cause the creaking sound you described. Better to change the whole thing anyway. ranoe 11-28-2008, 04:07 AM Ok..
