1998 Chevy Tahoe Dies Out While Drivingjbg5119 11-23-2008, 07:20 PM My 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe kills while driving. It has happened only on long trips and the service engine light doe not come on. It starts back up and runs fine, but the engine has killed more than once, just not back to back. One time after the engine killed, I drove to gas station and it died while idling. I have been told that the electronic control module (ecm) could be overheating on long trips but I just want a second opinion. I went to a service station and the guy said if it didn't relay any signal to the computer via the engine light coming on, he could not diagnose it. Any help is greatly appreciated. j cAT 11-23-2008, 08:23 PM My 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe kills while driving. It has happened only on long trips and the service engine light doe not come on. Any help is greatly appreciated. fuel pressures need to be checked ...with a long hose drive with guage hooked up and see if the pressures drop off at times...this is common failure and the forum has many detailed instructions on this testing good luck.. no dtc means its a good chance its the fuel.... the cps is a componet that could do this as well but will leave a code .. hoouwit 11-25-2008, 09:44 PM I've been told that a fuel pump can overheat and the problem I'm having is a warning sign that the fuel pump is giving out. Anyway, I'm bringing my tahoe into the shop on Tuesday, but any other suggestions you guys have is much appreciated. I'll let you know what the mechanic says. Thanks! bonziskier 01-02-2009, 03:15 AM This may sound overly simple, but check battery connections. I recently had the same issue on my 99 Tahoe. The cable would was still bolted in place but lost enough contact that the truck died. I would pull over and it must have moved just enough while stopping to make better contact and restart. rob_cracraft 09-10-2009, 12:52 PM I have a 01 chevy dually with 496. it dies while i'm driving and idling a couple times a week. I have replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump..is there anything else I replace? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
