Everyone,

I am currently building Tamiya 993 GT2 Taisan Starcard w/o the decals, and wanted to do a trackday version.

I was originally wanted to paint it in white but someone is already building a spectacular GT2 in white (hopefully he can finish it though :D:D), therefore I decided to go with Metallic Red instead.

Seats are painted with Flat Black and German Grey for the bolsters.

SMS CF are used for the seats backing.

Disc brakes and calipers are painted and washed with Dark Gray, Flat Black, and Lemon Yellow.

Various wires here and there strapped with Tamiya Masking Tape,

I also used beads for the fire suppression's gauge,

Bits of SMS CF

This is not totally accurate, but I always loved the look of CF dashboard through the windshield, so here it goes.

More coming and outdoor pics of the body hopefully (indoor lighting makes it look orange instead of red :D). Thank you for looking and feedback is always welcomed.

I'm almost done with painting the body, so hopefully I can bring more updates, Thanks!

Hey Tham-

The interior looks terrific! (And maybe a bit familiar ) Nice work, looking forward to seeing the body.

I had a bit of time to work on the body today.

So here it is after grey primer, TS12 gold, 2 coats of Mica Red, and 3 coats of clear all straight from cans. Still needs to polish it. I am not sure if it's because of Andy's 911 or those cool reference pics from Picasaweb, but I decided to open the fuel filler flap as well :D
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0039.jpg
I also used brass that was relatively easy to form for the front diffuser (Figured it would look great on mine as well, Andy:D)

Better picture of the wheels after paint and wash.

Drilled the steering wheel to be more accurate.

Thanks for looking and feedback please! :D

Damn, you move fast. The seat CF looks fantastic - beautifully done. Good idea on the wheel too. And the diffuser is awesome, great idea guys (guess who might have to pinch it now!...). Are you gonna weather the body at all?

That will be one heck of an eyecatcher. Looks great. The interior is very well done.

Does anyone know if the bottom diffuser of 993 GT2 Race Car is Carbon Fiber or just painted with Semi Gloss Black?
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/Porsched_993_GT2_Diffusercopy.jpg

I was looking at my references and also Google and found nothing. Thanks!

High res pic (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2316/2589647769_5c042a52d6_o.jpg)
I magnified and couldn't see any cf pattern... But I may be wrong

Thanks a lot for the pic, I really appreciate it. It certainly looks like Semi Gloss Black from that pic.

Last update before completed pictures.

I decided to weathered the wheels to highlight the rivets. The wheels were also shot with flat clear.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0150.jpg

Picture with front lip installed, still needs to somehow replicate the cables that connects them to the front bumper.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0144.jpg

Bottom diffuser was colored with TS-6 Matt Black, but not yet glued to place.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0140.jpg

Rear spoiler was CF-ed with SMS black on silver, still needs to be cleared.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0138.jpg

A mock license plate just for pictures, the rear tow hook is not completely accurate, wished I could have fixed it before painting.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0132.jpg

This is my best paintjob to date (three coats of Mica Red over TS-21 Gold, cleared with Tamiya Clear, polished with Tamiya three step compounds, Meguiar Scratch X'ed, and Waxed)
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e114/ddtham/993%20GT2/DSCF0125.jpg

Next mission would be to take better pics with more lighting, as this color is especially hard to photographed (any suggestions??). Thank you for checking!

Looking good. I think Andy is right about the tow hook now, the ones he found are better, but no biggie. Is there any point in using Scratch-X? Surely, it is dazzling after the Tamiya finish compound?

Mark,

To me, the Tamiya compound is not soft enough. So, I can still find micro scratches after polishing, and this is where scratch X comes to play.

I've heard wonderful news about Gunze Polymer Polish though (it's just harder to find in US), so I might switch from Tamiya.

Yeah, me too. I'll update soon, and show you what I did for mine.

Can't wait to see what you came up with. Luckily my tow hook is not glued yet, so depends on the level of difficulty, I might "steal" your idea :D

Thanks for the comments and encouragements everyone!

Nice build on this kit... I just bought this kit to build and use as reference for my 1/8 Pocher 993 GT2 conversion. I won't start the Pocher 993 for a while as I am currently building the Pocher F40, which I will have a WIP thread on after Monday when I return home. I really like the color and the paint looks excellent! Since I will probably end up putting my version in a display case on my desk at my shop, I have decided to do mine in plain white. I won't do very much detail past painted detail either. Nice kit and well done on your part...
