Hasegawa: Jaguar XJR-8LM

Needed a simple and nice out of the box-build, to finally get something finished again. :loser:

I chose Hasegawas LeMans Jaguar from 1987, which really is a nice, problem free kit.
In a way it is a bit too simple. No engine, no suspension, wheels do not steer, even the brakes have no calipers, there are only disks. At least something i had to change.
I added some nice calipers at the rear and replaced the front brakes completely.
They were painted with alclad stainless steel and Tamiya X-31

Some micro-balls for the seat texture, seat belt, carbon decals and the interior is finished. :grinyes:
Exhaust was painted with Alclad chrome, ECU covered with bare-metal and then painted with clear-blue.

Although Hasegawa made decals for all the violet areas of the body, i preferred to paint them.
The colour is a mix of TS-37, X-4 and XF-2.

The car is already finished, but i still need to make some good photos.
I wanted at least to show some WIP pics.

You mixed lacquer with acrylic? Interesting - any issues?

Great job on the masking.
Looks incredibly clean. Must have taken ages to mask this car. But the result is great.

I recently disposed of the XJR-9 from Tamiya. Very old build of mine, totally screwed up. But what I do remember was that the yellow decals weren't opaque and the purple paint shone through. It really sucked. It seems the decals from Hasegawa in this kit are much better (or your masking job has been much better than mine :icon16:)...

Looking forward to the finished kit !

Had no problems at all, but i thought Tamiya TS and X/XF-paints are both acrylics? Isnīt lacquer something that needs a hardener?

Masking didnīt took me as long as it seems. I scanned the decals and printed them on paper. In order to avoid violet paint shining through the yellow stripes, i made exact templates with the help of those printed decals.
I can clearly recommend this way of masking, worked out fine and wasnīt too difficult.

Sorry, my bad - I thought you literally meant "mix" to change the color. TS is lacquer-based, but as you are no-doubt aware you can paint water or enamel based paints over it. It looks excellent btw, great work.

Very nice paint job on one of my favorite liveries. It must have taken a while to mask it up for the purple color..?? I have one of these to build and was wondering the best way to replicate the livery.I think you just answered my question, painting the purple is definitely the best way to go, it looks great..!!
Can't wait to see the finished pictures, it really is a beautiful looking car.
