I have an '01 SL2 with 110,xxx miles on it. Have a question on a weird vibration/shimmy in the front passenger side of the car. Weird thing is is that it only happens when turning to the left at low speed, like leaving from a stop light and turning left. I have jacked up the car and have no play in the wheel(grabbing it at 12 & 6 o'clock to check for bearing or cv joint play). I thought maybe a cv joint but not sure. Also every one in a while I rub the passenger front tire while turning. This car has stock tires on it. So it lead me to think that I may have a bad strut. Anyone have any ideas or run across this problem before? Thanks in advance!!!

I wanna say bad wheel bearing. However its usually a constant sound that varies with speed. In your case as speed increases, the sound goes away. There is no noise on the highway making left turns correct?

I would rotate the tires front to back or swap the front two tires (if they are not directional important) and see if the noise follows.

I may also put the car on jack stands and run the car in D. With an assistant see if you can replicate this noise.

Also check your calipers. Make sure the pins are greased with high temp grease and that they are able to move. Ive gone crazy looking for a thumping noise which ended up being my caliper pins holding the pads to the rotor. Slapped some some grease on the pins and the noise went away :)

I havent checked the calipers but I have rotated the tires and no change. Just weird that it only happens when turning left. Yes the vibration goes away as speed increases.

So tires are fine.

You say you have the front tire rub occasionaly when turning. Sharp turn?

Id say calipers next. If that doesnt do anything, it has to be a bad bearing

Yes the tire rub is at sharp turn. You wouldnt suspect strut or cv joints? I guess I will check the calipers and make sure nothing is going on. It just doesnt seem like a caliper problem with it acting the way it does.

Tire rub is your brake hose. Might want to fix that. Just re route the hose so its not rubbing the tire.

Its not the caliper but the caliper pins. they need to be well greased with high temp grease.

nah i dont think a cv joint is the issue. Actually to be honest, i have not seen a saturn halfshaft go bad except for 2 occasions; Both consisted of the half shaft completely breaking in half.

Granted you are there and I am here :) By all means go with your gut feeling!
