2001 - Takes longer to start than it used to..

My 2001 Stratus is taking a lot longer to start than it used to.. Fortunately, it always starts at least. But I turn the key, and it tries to start, hold it there for a few seconds. Then stop, then sometimes I get lucky and it works the second time. But the bottom line is it is just taking longer to start than before.. Any ideas?

My 2000 was hit or miss when trying to start on cold mornings, (-10 F) when only used for town driving, and it only had 50k on odometer. I replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and plug wires, and added heat fuel treatment. I also drove it on the highway 100 miles to get the engine good and warmed up afterwards. It now start great at even -25 F. I also recommend a block heater and try to plug it in when below 0. An outdoor timer set to cylcle on 2 to 3 hours before starting saves on electricity costs, just make sure it is rated to 20 amps. A household indoor timer is typically 15 amps and will burn out.

Hope this helps,

Russ
