WIP: STR3 2008 F1 "Italian GP" winner

Hi everyone,

The kit just arrived I just couldn't wait to get started on this one. this will be my first MFH/E-JAN kit and I must say I am heavily impressed by the quality and how crisp the resin and white metal pieces are. the rims are stunning and the PE looks superb. plenty of Carbon Fiber decals will be used and will prolly need a new shipment from SMS before its all said and done

This is the very rare Italian GP kit that only 60 were produced worldwide, I wanted to build it up because Vettel is my new favorite F1 driver and this model will depict his Historic raceweekend when he became the youngest polesitter and race winner in F1 history.

ok, no more talk just the pics.

This will be a thread to follow. Those rain tyres look sensational!
Did you get a set of decals in the kit as well or did they send you two sets in the decals you ordered? I think you got a bonus either way because I only got the 1 set of RB decals in my RB4.

Spike2933
11-09-2008, 04:37 PM
the decals were purchased seperately, I bought 2 because of the difficulty of the STR Red Bull, I didn't realize the RBR decals would come with it, so it was indeed a bonus

Where did you get the kit??? I want one SO badly!!! I LOVE Sebastian Vettel!!!!

I am watching this build!

Spike2933

only 60 kits were produced worldwide, and now since RB made all the stores stop selling them, its tough to get, I was able to get it through one guy who already soldout, they will be extremely difficult to find unfortunantly

Very nice kit what color blue do they say to use for the body?

I'd like to use the RBR paint that Zero Colors has, but I haven't used an airbrush in a while (nor am my skills up to it), but I have been told TS-53 is a very good color, its Deep Metallic Blue, I think, the Darkest Tamiya has.

Hi

I can recommend the Zeropaint from Hiroboy. Even if the airbrush capabilities are limited it is within most peoples reach to remove the lid and pour some prethinned paint into the airbrush cup ;-) The paint goes on very smooth but should get a couple of layers to build up the colour. It is way easier to get a nice finish with that rather than to use a rattlecan IMHO

The kit looks great. I have never built a MFH kit, but according to what I have seen so far I wouldn't mind building one.

I'll be watching this build. Good luck!!

And remember: Sebastian Vettel will be also the youngest F1 World Champion!!

Good to see you on here as well Spike! You'll probably get this finished before my RB4 but it'll be interesting to see your progress (especially as I have this kit on order!). The kit looks great though and the wets look pretty tasty too! Has anybody succesfully duplicated a white metal part? I want to copy the bridge wing for my RB4 when the STR3 turns up...

thanks Quim, just a reminder, the seat is done, CF and belts all together, took pics but my camera and computer are not connecting together for some reason, I've also just been prepping parts and test fitting them, also fixing up some areas to make it a correct Italian GP version.

more on the horizon

update: been a long time thanks to computer problems (made me too mad to work on the build)

Zero Paint was used for the the whole process, first time using it and it looks very nice, the pics will not to the color justice as its just a stunning blue (I want it on my car). the car is a pain in the *** when it comes to CF the car. alot of bare carbon is used on the RBR/STR cars, but its not as bad as the RBR car though, anyway enough talk, pics

this is what the front nose and the Bargeboards look after the clear over the decals (it also really brings out the blue)

the mirrors got the same clear, and I am extremely pleased what Mr. Super Clear does to bring out the paint, its stunning

right now, the chassis is being CF, almost done with that, felt like doing it, which is rare because I hate doing it

thanks to Saint for persuading me to clear over the decals (looks 1000 times better)

hopefully within another 10 years, I can start making models like Klutz and 360Spider only to name a few

here is a teaser shot of the body, it must be cleared before CF and decals are started  I unfortunantly messed up alittle on the right side, luckly part of the bull will cover it up and no will see it, started getting scared because I am running low of the blue, but luckly I only have the rear wing left to spray with the blue
