Good possibility the problem is the wiper motor.

Could it be that there was a recal on this item. After all wiper systems are safety items and should last at least 10 years. I have just experianced a problem with parking of the wiper system in my 1999 CV this morning.

I know this is an older thread but hey why not convey what information I have.

I've had a similar problem late last winter. I was driving home on a sunny warm day when all the snow was melting on the highway and kicking up alot of salt and dirt. Soon after I started on my 2 hour journey home, my wipers would only work intermittently and finally after a few attempts to play with the control switch, the wipers refused to leave their parked position. After having to stop at a few gas stations to clean my windshield off without wipers, I got home and took it to the dealer the following morning. It ended up that the wiper motor was fine and the problem was a failed wiper governor. Ended up costing around $400 in parts and labor.

I've changed a few of these on my own vehicles a scrap yard is a decent choice. Get the whole item as some of them have a board in them for the controls. Normally they warranty these items for 10 days. If it works that long chances are it will last the life of the vehicle. At least the ones I purchased lasted until I sold the vehicle.
