97 Malibu V6 3.1L Remote Keyless Entry

Hello

Does anyone know where the 97 Malibu's remote entry emitter (radio) for keyless entry located?

Is it part of the CD/Radio Receiver (Head Unit) or is it located elsewhere? I am thinking of setting up a remote key and replacing the head unit with a better but still cheap one.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You can swap the radio, it does not have any connection to the factory keyless entry system.

I did the following as instructed in my threads in this forum,

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Ground the receiver program terminal. Jump the two terminals located in the programing ground connector on the right side of the trunk.
3. Within 2 seconds of connecting the prongs the door locks will lock. The unlock and the rear compartment lid release will produce a cycle, causing the horn to chirp. This indicates that the module is ready for reprogramming.

4. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until the doors lock and unlock. The rear compartment lid will release and the horn sounds to indicate that the transmitter has successfully been reprogrammed. (Hold buttons down for approximately 12 seconds)

However, in my case I noticed the door and trunk lock and unlock cycle, but did not hear the horn to chirp. Does it mean that my 97 Malibu LS V6 has no remote entry functionality? The remote key had no effect on the door and trunk either.

Any suggestions?

The receiver is located in the trunk between the two speakers. It's sandwiched between the back board and metal of the trunk. The easiest way of finding it is to look for the wiring harness.

Hi bearcatdon:

I found the two terminal jumper in the trunk for the keyless program, but can not find the receiver. What is the shape of the keyless receiver? Thank you.

It's about 4" square and one inch thick. It will have the same FCC number on it as your FOB
