What brand of oil/filter to use?cboy2us 11-03-2008, 12:10 AM Its coming time that I need to change oil for the first time since owning my GA. What is everyones favorite brand/type of oil and filter to use in this car? (2004 3.4L) xeroinfinity 11-03-2008, 06:08 PM K&N HP-1001 is what I was using but they run about $15-20. Now I use Mobil 1 M1-101 extended protection, pretty cheap at walmart. Though in the past I've skimped out and bought Fram which isnt very good, at all ! :grinno: cboy2us 11-03-2008, 09:10 PM I think I will probably go the K&N and Mobile 1 route, I have heard of a lot of people doing it, I cant find a Puralator Pure One around here anywhere. '97ventureowner 11-03-2008, 10:47 PM I use Mobil 1 and will be changing my preferred brand of filter the next time I change my oil. Sadly, I can no longer recommend A C Delco filters as they have changed their manufacturing process and now are far less superior than they once were. There has been a oil filter study online that tested various makes of oil filters and up until this year, the A C Delcos were one of the best. Now that title is held by Mobil1 or K&N, (although the study says to get the Mobil1 as they are the same as the K&Ns , but less expensive.) Here is a link to that study for anyone who wants to read up on it: http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/opinions.html . If you'll notice, the A C Delcos, K&Ns and Mobil1's are all made by Champion Labs. The difference that separates them from 'less desirable" to preferred is the manufacturing processes used to make them. xeroinfinity 11-04-2008, 01:58 PM Yeah Tom AC Delco has sent a bunch of thier old jobs overseas. And thankx for that link!! I spent about an hour yesterday trying to find that thread where we were talkning about filters ealier this year, and had that link. :runaround: '97ventureowner 11-04-2008, 03:40 PM I spent about an hour yesterday trying to find that thread where we were talkning about filters ealier this year, and had that link. :runaround: Bookmark it JC ! xeroinfinity 11-04-2008, 06:31 PM Bookmark it JC ! Thank you I did that this time. For once , advanced search was working but just didnt find the link yesterday. cboy2us 11-04-2008, 06:33 PM How about air filters, I have heard both good and bad about K&N. When warrenty runs out, I plan to put a CAI on it xeroinfinity 11-04-2008, 06:39 PM A CAI wont void your warranty. :grinno: The deal with K&N air filters is if to much oil is on them they can faul out your MAF and IAT sensors. Usualy a cleaning will restore those components. I oil mine very lightly, if at all when I wash them out. I usualy clean mine every 10-12K miles or every two oil changes. cboy2us 11-10-2008, 11:17 AM Got a K&N oil filter (HP-1001) at Oriley's for 9.99, and Valvoline because Mobil 1 synthetic was either scarce, or extinct "due to hurricane Ike." put over 100 miles on the new oil, and not even a change in color, cant hardly tell its on the dipstick cause its clear, put it on a paper towel, and it looks like water, but a heck of a lot slicker, lol. I am impressed. xeroinfinity 11-10-2008, 07:44 PM You did see above where the K&N is the same as the Mobil 1 are the same, and the Mobil is much cheaper. The only thing different is the nut welded on the end of the K&N, and half the time, it breaks off when you try to use it. :screwy: cboy2us 11-10-2008, 09:11 PM ya, but didnt use the nut, and couldn't find a moblie 1. But Oriley's was having a sale on the K&N, so I got one. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
