2000 ES replaced water pump- won't start

The car was overheating. We figured that it was the water pump. We drove it into our barn- when we started this process- so it was running. Replaced the water pump with all the right tools- made sure the timing didn't get off track. Now it won't start. We tested the fuel pump, spark plugs, checked the sensors and such to make sure nothing was missed. It will turn but won't crank on up.

Any suggestions?

Eh, we think it's probably the timing belt- so we're dismantling the car again. Going to see if the two top cam thingys are lined up correctly.

(I'm the wife not the mechanic- thus the bad terminology)

Assuming it is a 2.4 DOHC engine, the cam sprockets have a dash mark on them, and I think they are marked "up" as well. Provided you turned the crankshaft so that the barely noticeale nick on the rear lip of the crank sprocket, lined up with the small tiny arrow stamped on the oil pump housing at about 11 oclock if I remember right, and the cam marks are right across from each other, you should be OK.
I was thinking that those two cam marks are to be about 1/2 tooth off, then after you put the belt on starting with the rear cam sproket, then the front one, working your way around clockwise, after you get it all on, and you move the crank clockwise just a little to take out the slack, those cam marks end up straight across from each other. It is a very tricky belt job to do!!

GOOD LUCK!!

A friend and I are trying to replace the water pump but we can't get the accessory drive belt bolt off. We need to remove it to get to the water pump. We read the Hanies Manual and it says this is the way to go. Do we just need more muscle or are we missing something?
