97 Skylark LEAK!!! FIREWALL??

Ok so i have a leak in my car.

its on the drivers side and if i lay down and watch it
it comes strait down the fire wall...

has anyone had this problem?


i seriously think its geting bad because its screwing up
my electrical....

all my lights are on and my temp censer is not working..




any one have ideas?

could be the windshield. could be a leaky grommet on the firewall... could be if there are any lines going to the heater core in that area...

Hi, On my 92 Skylark, which I purchased last spring, (It probably has the same design as yours except for the grill, dash and engine/transmission) I had problems with leaks at the firewall with water getting on the floor on both the drivers and passangers side. In my case it was the drains for the cowel under the windshild wipers. Both drains were plugged with dirt, needles and other trash. this resulted in water filling up the cowel plenum area and spilling over into other avenues of escape that turned out to be ways into the interior. I removed the wipers, the plastic grill and removed about 2 gallons of stuff from the area then made sure the 2 drains were clear. the one on the drivers side was easy. the one on the passanger side was not so easy. It is under the heater fan/motor and air plenum. After that was done, I had to seal the seams of the heater plenum (its a cheesy plastic fold together box that goes above the heater fan) with rtv to block water intrusion paths. That took care of everything so far. In my case, I had no rust to deal with. Mine cleaned up like new with no paint damage or rust anywhere. My car is not in a salty climate. I have a 95 skylark and just had the heater core replaced and before i was having a baaaad leak. Now sence the heater core was replaced no leak. On your car it might the heater core leaking:2cents:

On the drivers side leak check around the grommet for the hood release cable. It's kind of an odd spot right on top. I could see where that could leak if not seated properly, or if some one ran some extra wires up through there on after market installs.

I got a 96 with the same problem. In my case...there are rust holes in thru the firewall. So iv taken out the rug and started looking around...and the driver side leak is to far up in between the dash for me to get...so...im thinking i should take apart the dash to get to it.. I know its going to be a job, But this car has only 70.000 miles on it and runs and looks great. Is there any easier way to get in there? or is taking the dash out my only option?
