1988 Delta 88 Coolant Leak inside passenger compartment

I have seen a slow loss in coolant and was dreading the potential head gasket or intake manifold leak. Now, however I have discovered a significant amount of coolant inside the car on the floor of the passenger side. It has more than soaked the carpet. On first attempt I could not see the location of the leak, and just cleaned it up. Now the coolant is back again.

Has anyone had this issue? If so where was the leak and how did you go about finding it and fixing it? It would seem it would have to be the heater core, or connections/hoses to the heater core.

Thanks for any/all advice,

Ron

Yes, it was the heater core. The hose connections are actually in the engine compartment under a plastic cover. Some tips for those that may read this with the same problem.

Remove the right side bottom plastic cover with the sound damper and the chrome plate first. The collar that goes around the steering column which appears to be in the way of the chrome plate is rubber and easily moves back. The middle plastic cover which holds the glove compartment comes off last. You remove the electric actuator and electronic control to the vacuum system next. The rod which connects to the damper pops straight up out of the orange plastic clip. The plastic cover which the damper was attached to is the cover for the heater core.

Couple of tips on reassembly. Don't forget to attach the damper rod again and the light for the ash tray before you put the cover on.
