So I test my alternator cause I smell something melting, and it is showing 52 volts.
So I do more test's. It has a plug on the side, the plug on the hot side reads the same as the battery, 12.1 volts, so I assume this plug is something for the voltage regulator to tell the alternator how much to put out?????

With this plugged in the alternator put out 52 volts, without it the alterator put out nothing. Is the alternator shot, or is there something different I should be looking at with this truck? A shorted wire maybe?

Thanks for any help, this is frustrating.
