pressing brake stops LEFT turn signalschreib 10-19-2008, 07:34 PM If I press the brake pedal(flips the plunger switch on the brake arm) my LEFT flasher(only!) stops flashing and stays ON steady. Same thing happens with the double emergency flasher, but both blinker lights stay lit-- no flashing. Releasing the brake reactions are normal again. So, the obvious fix makes sense to replace the brake switch, right?! Nope, http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/banghead.gif did that, NO change. I have no electrical. If I had one it should be easy to fix this. Other ideas out there?? Source for an elec. diagram?? Cat Fuzz 10-20-2008, 12:35 AM Sounds like a bad ground. Probably somewhere near the area of the problem. Either the front or rear light ground. Gizmo42 10-20-2008, 07:21 PM Do you have wiring for a trailer? If so, disconnect that and see what happens. If not, then a bad ground sounds like the most logical. schreib 10-20-2008, 11:11 PM Do you have wiring for a trailer? If so, disconnect that and see what happens. If not, then a bad ground sounds like the most logical. Well you guys may both have been correct! I am not quite sure. Might not ever be. Whatever the case, I STILL have the problem. Here is what I did: Since the trailer wires were not easily disconnected I decided to simply disconnect the OEM elec connector from the Left rear turn signal harness that it was tapped into. While running the check, pressing the brake this time did NOT cause the left turn signal light to come on steady as before, but the front left flashed about 3x faster-- which is what you expect when the load from the rear lamp is removed. So, still thinking the trailer harness was messing things up AND figuring the ground line was the prime suspect I provided another route to ground for the harness: To do this I inserted a wire into the ground lug probe of the trailer harness plug and attached the other end to a known good ground. After re-connecting the left rear turn signal harness and testing, EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. Interestingly enough when I removed this extra ground wire, it STILL worked fine. So, with all I did, the net change in wiring was zero. In the end, I ONLY disconnected the left rear turn lamp assy from the connector and RE-connected it! What? just a poor contact on that ground? that's all??! NOW a few months later . . . I still have the problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
