Snapping sound from brake system?jdrh 10-16-2008, 08:34 PM A couple of months ago, I purchased a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan ES with 166k miles on it. I had to replace several rusted out brake lines going to and coming from the ABS module. I also replaced front rotors and pads. After finally getting the brakes system bled, the brakes worked great. Recently the ABS light started coming on and now is on most of the time. The concern now is a snapping or clicking sound that appears to be related to the brake system. When I press the brake pedal to shift from park to drive, I feel a snap in the pedal. Once in drive, it's not there when I press the brake pedal. There is also a snapping sound coming from the front end somewhere when I come to a stop and when I start out. It just snaps once stopping and once when I take my foot off of the brake pedal and accelerate. I thought it was related to the struts, but it only happens when I am braking and just before the vehicle stops. I don't get the sound when I bounce the front end. Is it related to the ABS system? Brakes appear to be releasing ok. littlebitofinsanit 10-19-2008, 06:39 PM check that sensor is is rubbing or wires hit or wires wrapped around drive shaft behind bearing large drum at end of axle with teeth cut into it sensor barely clears measures and adlust braking jdrh 10-19-2008, 10:21 PM It sounds like a good place to start looking. Thanks Robertmchenry 10-20-2008, 09:00 AM Roll the car in reverse and apply the brakes. After you stop put the car in gear and slowly roll forward, again apply the brakes. Does it make the popping sound in both directions? Sometimes the strut to lower control arm loosens up & will start popping. I'm having this issue with my Van. Also have to get under their & figure out why my sway bar keeps loosening up & clunking. I believe the lower control arm issue was the result of me sliding into a curb one winter. The shop was able to correct. I though I was going to have to visit a frame shop (Ka-Ching) to have the front end straightened out. Also, the disc brakes rotors are sandwiched between the rim and hub. If the lug nuts are loose the rotor can sometimes slip making a clunking sound. Let us know what you find out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
