2003 Rear Litgate Stuck

Anybody have any advice on a 2003 with a rear liftgate stuck locked? I have removed all of the trim before to access the wiper motor, but since it is stuck locked it appears there is no way to manually open it (no keyed lock from the outside). I can hear the lock mechanism moving when I lock or unlock from the remote. Thanks

Followup- I was able to remove the trim from the inside and I found out that the cable for the liftgate release mechanism was frayed near the handle. Just like a bicycle brake cable, it must have become corroded in the middle and just failed. Now I am at the mercy of the dealer who probably wants hundreds of dollars for the cable.
