I just purchased a 1999 s/w and Love it. Can someone tell me what that noise is when i first start it up it sounds like a pump or something running for about 40 seconds or so and then it shuts off?

Fuel pump pressurizing the fuel rail. If you dont hear it...then you worry :)

It is the AIR pump. look under the hood and it should be by the a/c compressor. The AIR pump is used to reduce emissions on start up

No all of the '99 model year have the air pump. There is a '99a and a '99 b. But thinking about it more, it definitely could be the air pump.

For your information the air pump is used to help heat the front o2 sensor up faster :)
