Great mad awesome description of the problems and what you checked.

Check your timing to make sure it's not off.

Check timing again. If it ran before you changed the belt but now it does not then you probably have the timing set wrong.

well, i bought this car and a 91 laser for 700 bucks. i was told that it just needed the timing set. we set the timing lastnight, that's when i wrote that. sorry the description wasn't the best. thanks, car started today, but it's tapping bad and barely stays running. think it's a bad head, i'll figure it out tomorrow morning.

Tapping? Like coming from the head? Sounds like the valves are bent from bad timing, which would cause a no/barely run situation like that. Pull the head and check for valve damage and replace whats needed.

Check compression first. You may not need to pull the head.
