Just got one for almost NOTHING.
It's clean, runs nicely, and is faster than most cars on the road by far.
But the catyltic converter is going bad and starting to smoke.
I didn't pay much for this car and am not going to buy another one.
My question is if i can remove the rear part of the exhuast and break the guts out of the peice...
I mean isn't the O2 sensor in there?
Or not?

Anyway, any pointers would be great!
Gotta get something done before it gets clogged and can't drive it anymore.

if it is blue smoke then it ain't the cat smoking. its burning oil . a black smoke means its burning rich . you ought to be able to unbolt the cat and either put another one on from junkyard or put a new one on. you just have to spray the bolts good with a penetrator so you won't break the bolts.the o2 sensors are in the exhaust manifolds and behind the cat. but if its burning oil it will just clog the new one up.
