Anybody know any tricks to get a BADLY rusted spare tire mechanism to work? My spare has never been off the truck in 21 years.:eek7:

Get a good penetrant like Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster (not WD40) and start hosing the mechanism down daily. After a few days try and work it back and forth with the hand crank. Keep soaking and working it, and maybe add a little heat from a propane torch. It will take a while, but sooner or later it will break free.

Thanks for the quick response to my question. Been spraying this thing with PB Blaster for a few days now, no luck so far..its rusted up SOLID. The thing that the shaft inserts into wont turn at ALL. Tire blocks my access to the lowering mechanism, gonna try to cut the chain and get the tire out of it so I can get at the winch gizmo itself. Tried finding the articles on the mag sites you listed, but cant find anything about this problem. Gonna attack it again tommorow.....maybe an acetalene torch....:grinyes:
