Well after I finished the McLaren MP4/7 I fancied doing a rally car as it seems ages since my last one.So far I got the body shell painted (Zero World Rally Blue) and started the decals. The decals seem a little brittle, so much so that one of the Denso logo's on the front wing curled up and destroyed itself. If anyone has a spare I would greatly appreciate it  I've tried everywhere to source a sheet of decals to no avail.

The offending Denso decal circled that I am now missing for the other side.

More progress as I make it, thanks for looking.

Continuing with the Subaru and it seems I've been plagued with problems so far and I'm only just doing the bodyshell.I rushed the decals a little, maybe because I was so keen to see them on, but still I rushed them and as a result they are not as good as they should have been. The pictures don't really show up the flaws but there are the odd wrinkles here and there, nothing too bad but it pains me to know I could have done them better.Maybe just me but the yellow stars and crescent decals seemed very fragile and very brittle on my kit (maybe old decals...???)
I also got a couple of minor runs in the clear coat, but nothing a good polish with the micromesh/compound shouldn't sort when the shell is properly dry. Also some small dirt nibs landed in the roof whilst I was clear coating, again they will polish out when dry.
The colour though I was happy with. The shade certainly looks a closer match than TS 50 Mica Blue in my opinion, I'll let you all be the judge. Here's a few daylight pictures.Next I'll be starting the chassis whilst the body dries.

I hope the chassis brings me more luck after the small body problems, although looking at the pictures it isn't too bad, but they do hide the flaws quite well.I tend to have a disaster model every once in a while that turns around and bites, I just hope that this one ain't it.....................:shakehead

Any comments most welcome :)

I'd really appreciate the Denso logo, if it's no trouble..?

Hi Steve

You're off to a nice start, well actually great start. Apart from the Denso decal I can't see any flaws. And I must say that the body is looking very impressive and nice and shiny.

But I guess that the builder is always a bit more critical about his (or her) build...

Anyway, great start. Looking forward to the next update.

Looks great so far. That color does look better than Tamiya's. I have noticed Tamiya's flourescent decals do seem to be brittle compared to their regular decals. Try using a hot damp cloth on those tough to bend and lay down decals.

I had the same problems with decals when i built this kit.
I believe it's just the fact they are the day glo yellow they are very brittle and almost impossible to work with. Mine actually broke into little pieces so it was like a puzzle trying to get them together before they dried.
So great job. I have a few builds that sit the same way in the display case to hide minor flaws.
Looking forward to the rest.

Body is now polished and I've painted the black window trims.I've been working on the chassis for the last couple of days and it's going slowly with not much to show just yet, but I'll put some pictures up soon.

Finished body with black trim painted

Well I have continued today on the chassis. It is very fiddly, with lots of tedious masking out for a few seconds spraying with the airbrush. But it has to be done.Progress is slow and I must admit I'm struggling a bit with this build to find the motivation...!!!!
Anyway here's a few progress pictures of the chassis.

Looks fantastic to me, can't see any problems at all! It's very easy to notice minor flaws yourself that nobody else would notice unless you point them out from my experience! At least the clear coat didn't affect the decals which is a problem I have had recently.

Well after quite a long period of inactivity I am finally back working on the Subaru again, hopefully with a view to getting it finished quite soon. The reason I've been off it for a while is purely down to a lack of motivation on my part.Lots of little things have gone wrong with this one and although a simple enough build I've had my share of problems with it, all small but annoying just the same.So I took a small break from building and it seems to have worked.
Anyway I've got the chassis and interior mostly finished, the body is painted, decals are on, cleared and polished.I'm now finishing all the small parts that seem to take forever to do.Here's a few photo's of the chassis and interior. The more observant of you will notice that the seat belts are not the same. One of the little 'problems' I described earlier and all my own doing. After destroying one of them with Mr Mark Softer I had to pinch one from my Rally of Japan Subaru kit and they are different, unfortunately. The wheels came out quite nicely though.Originally they were a little rough, so I stripped the pre painted Tamiya gold off and re-painted with Alclad pale gold instead over a black basecoat.

Hi Steve,

I completely understand what you mean when talking of fall down of motivation when accumulating problems...
I lived that with my Sub Gr. A tribute to McRae...
But I gave up when I finally completely messed the body wanting to improve details. :banghead:

Your Sub is very nice, and even if I'm not very friend with clear coating over decal :naughty: your body is really impressive as much it's clean !

If that can help you, I can send you seat belts decals as I won't use them in my model (intend to use paper and PE to make the belts).
feel free to ask.

all the best for the finish of this Sub !
