What are the best things to check with the following symptoms...

The engine turns over but doesn't start... I've got good fuel pressure.. ignition switch appears to be good (lights on dash come on for the bulb check)..

Whats the best way to test for spark?

I just recently (2 weeks ago) replaced all of the following:

spark plugs, rotor, distributor -AND- cap, cables, ignition coil, ECM, and CPI fuel injector assembly.

Just this morning it ran fine going to grocery store.. then when I went out to start it about an hour later it sounded like it was starting.. then imediately died.. and after that I haven't been able to get it to start.. just cranks away..

suggestions?

Thanks,
Tim

How often does it do that?
Does it start and run for 2 seconds and quit or just no start?
If start and run 2 seconds it may be anti theft shutting it down.
Any check engine or security or antitheft lights on?
They make and sell spark testers for checking spark or if no pace maker and a good heart you can take a phillips screwdriver and stick in plug wire and hold metal part about a 1/4 in" away from ground and look for good hot blue spark.
To be able to help you.
At the time of no start we need a fuel pressure reading.
Post back all of your fuel pressure reading.

Q1: How often does it do that?
A1: It only did that the first time that it 'stopped' starting..

No antitheft on my truck that I know of :-( (except radio)

The check engine light comes on only for the bulb check..

Q2: Does it start and run for 2 seconds and quit or just not start?
A2: Just no start.. just the starter turning the engine.

I have an 'inductance' spark tester.. but haven't been happy with it's performance... it's a little pen like thing that you put the end on a wire and a 'fuse like' tube in the pen 'glows' when there is current through the wire..

I've tried it on my truck and a parents car.. and the bulb is never consistently 'pulsing' ..

However I had tried it on the wire leading out of my coil (a FEW WEEKS AGO.. when the engine was -running- fine! and I the 'glowing' indicator was almost constantly on)

Now when I hold the tester next to the coil wire while my fiance cranks. it doesn't light up.. (and I'm not sure if that's because the engine hasn't actually started.. or if that is an indicator of -why- the engine isn't starting)

Q3: Fuel Pressure readings..
A3: Fuel pump priming pressure is right at 60.. then when I turn the key to crank it stays right around 58-60 ish.

No Pacemaker.. hopefully good heart.. will try the phillips screwdriver test with some rubber gloves on

Just replaced most of the electrical components having to do with spark 2 weeks ago trying to diagnose a misfire.. (turned out to be fuel injector) so I'm puzzled.

Thanks,
-Tim

At time of no start always check fuel pressure.
The spark jump testers are best for checking spark.
And make sure all plugs are getting good hot blue spark that will gump a 1/4 or more.
Is the dist rotor turning good.
Cap and rotor good?
