Fuel Leakjohnsonace 09-20-2008, 06:32 PM I recently had the fuel pump & filter/regulator replaced on our 2001 4.0L CG. Ever since, when filling up completely, fuel will spill out the holes in the bottom of the tank cover. I planned to take it back to the garage, but have been delayed by hurricane Ike. When I called them, they said it might be caused by the purge canister, purge solenoid, or something like that. Yesterday, after adding gas but not filling completely, there was fuel dripping out of the tank cover after driving home about a mile. The check engine light has come on. I looked underneath and could see gas in the area of the top of the fuel pump. Can't see enough to pinpoint the source. My questions to the members are: what are the likely causes and is any of them a possible result of the fuel pump replacement work? Thanks, Bob D. 09-22-2008, 02:31 AM It's possible the tank was damaged when the fuel pump or regulator was replaced, changing the pump requires that the fuel tank to be partially removed/dropped. I would get it back to the shop ASAP, raw gasoline leaking out of your vehicle is a serious fire hazard. johnsonace 09-24-2008, 10:47 AM Update on the fuel leak problem: I took it back to the garage & they replaced the fuel pump 0-ring. They didn't acknowledge whether it had been improperly installed or omitted the first time. Didn't get an apology either, after taking three hours of my time and having been exposed to fire & explosion risk. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
