I just bought a new key and a remote for my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was wondering if anyone knew how to program the remote. I was told that I had to bring this to a dealer to have it done. Is this true or does anyone have the code that I could do myself?

If your Jeep has the Sentry Key option (ID chip in the key) the new key must be programmed to your vehicle. You can self-program an additional Sentry Key if you currently have two working keys.

The person that told you the remote transmitter must be programmed by the dealer was correct; the remote can be programmed only by a Chrysler dealership.

Check around your area for a locksmith who does auto work. Some of them have the equipment to do both the remote and the key. And they are usually cheaper than the dealer.
