97 Winstar Speedo Dies...jjalex 03-14-2003, 02:35 PM Our speedometer goes nuts on the Winstar after about 30mph. It has a scraping noise and the needle dances back and forth. The dealer says his computer tells him the electronic speedometer is bad and wants $500 to replace it. Does anybody have suggestions on replacing it myself with a salvage yard unit? Is it hard to get at the unit? Or other ideas? Thanks fordman123 03-14-2003, 07:36 PM You will probably find that the junkyard will want just about as much for this item (if they will even sell one)<-- "due to the speedo tamper laws" But is not really much of a problem to replace. Let me know if you decide to repair yourself and I will help you in any way that I can. It also gave me a good excuse to clean the dash... No clue on the o/d light..... prospeedo 11-30-2003, 01:38 PM Hi From Prospeedo Most Windstars Are Very Easy To Fix, How? The Problem Is You Need To Re-oil The Bearings In The Speedometer Cluster, Very Few Companies Can Do This Right But They Are Around, They Charge Around $275.00 Us To Fix Your Old One. Hope This Helps You Out. Prospeedo vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
