I just got off the phone with the shop and my truck has some issues. I have sank a lot of money into this truck in the past year and need some advice as to whether I should continue to do so. I was driving down the road and the engine shut off, couldn't restart. Took it in and they it needs new mass airflow sensor and fuel pressure (http://www.2carpros.com/forum/here-vp347606.html#) regualtorm throttle plate, Spark plugs and maybe a new distributer cap but they wont know for sure until later (it does look burnt, but they think it is due to wear). I would throw in new spark plug wires too. Oh, and also has some gas in the oil.

I have done extensive work on this truck myself, everything from a whole near front and rear end as well as alternator, water pump, brakes, cylinders, fuel pump (http://www.2carpros.com/forum/here-vp347606.html#), you name it, I've probably touched it... except the engine. I would liek to know if i could save $700 and do this repair myself. I am fairly limited on tools as I just moved away from home and would need to get specifics if needed. Seems like I could manage if I can do all this for under $500 but the shop says more like $1100. Any advice?

The only thing that you listed below is fairly easy to do. The fuel pressure reg would be the hardest just because the upper manifold would have to be taken off. The distributor cap is easy, its held on by three little screws, if your going to do the cap you should replace the rotor with it. Plugs and wires are easy. The mass air flow is very easy it sits in between the air box and the throttle body, it comes off with a few hose clamps. As for the gas in the oil, I can’t see how gas would be getting into the oil unless it was the fuel injection system under the upper manifold, near the pressure reg. I you might want to double check that because if it is antifreeze then you have a larger problem. You lower intake gasket is probably gone, which is very common in these small block Chevy’s. I just did mine a few months ago, it’s a big job.
