i just bought me an 89 SR5 4runner(3.0 v6 5-speed) on a cold start it will barely even stay running and it gets progressively better as it gets to operation temp. it seems to rev up slowly and has a small hesitation or stumbling feeling while accelerating........any ideas? would a hanes manual get me some good starting points to figure it out?

A Haynes manual might be of some help, but a Factory Service Manual would be a LOT of help.

im still in a rut with this thing.....ive replaced the fuel filter, checked all vacuum lines and checked for intake leaks and still nothing. i should also point out that my cruise control stopped working the same time it started running bad. Also when its idleing bad/low rpm i can spray a good amount of intake cleaner in and the idle gets perfect. is this a good indication that my fuel pressure is low or at least it tells me my engine is starving for fuel in some way??

I'd cover the basics first, meaning a good old tune-up. Check the air filter, plugs, wires, distributor contacts, coil. These can deteriorate and make ignition erratic (or nonexistent). Clean and regap or replace the plugs, clean the terminals or replace the distributor cap & coil. Hesitation is common with worn plugs and distributor contacts encrusted with oxidation.

Then, check the PCV and EGR valves. They need to be clean and functioning properly or you'll get the low, rough idle you describe. EGRs clogged with carbon deposits are known to cause rough idle and sluggish acceleration.

Then I'd check the fuel line pressure and filter. After that I'd spray around the throttle body, vacuum lines, and intake manifold gaskets with carb spray. If the engine changes speed, there's a leak where you sprayed.

Hope this helps!

just to let everyone know i fixed the problem. i took out the plugs and one of them was black with carbon residue. i went to the store and bought Isopropyl Alcohol and put 2 small bottles in my gas tank(works better then injector cleaner). after only 30 minutes of driving it started running perfect. So i had a dirty fuel injector!
