stratus dying out in middle of road....
GA_googleFillSlot("Forums_ROS_300x250_noad");hello peeps;

i have a problem with my 99 dodge stratus, when i start the car it's fine, but when we take off it dies out 5 mins later, we start it up again and 5 mins later it dies out, this happens on and on through out the travel time, i hooked up my OBD II scanner and it read EGR VALVE MALFUNCTION, i replaced the egr vavle the one that i recieved from the dealer the part no from the dealer is 04287827AC, but my original part no is 04287827AA, they both look exactly the same, but when i put the new one on its still the same problem, any help would be greatly appreciated........ frustrated.......

Something worth looking at is your relays. I'm not sure how that work on these cars (having never owned one) but a lot will have a relay that will send power to the fuel pump for the first few minutes until the engine builds enough vacuum to keep the fuel in supply. Maybe your relay is getting the pump to send that initial prime, but you're missing vacuum somewhere after the relay shuts off.

Did you replace just the EGR valve? I don't remember the exact name for it, but there is also a EGR control valve on these cars. It is right by the EGR valve, made of black plastic, has one electrical connector on it and vaccum lines. There is a solenoid in there that likes to go bad. If that craps out, yoiu have no control over when the EGR valve opens and closes.

Try it. It has worked for me in the past on a 1994 Dodge pickup, but the stratus has the same setup.
