Problem removing starter v6 87 dakota not enough room every thing is in way after it is unbulted no matter what angle or direction you cannot get it out of the inspection cover to drop it. Singed a:mad: frustrated member.

if your trying to take it out at bottom and cant have someone help see if you can push up top and reach under the hood to get it out.

I had a 1985 Dakota and the original equipment starter is small. I purchased it used and it had an old full size starter on it. I had to unbolt the rack and move it enough to get the starter out. If you have a rebuilt and it is about 1/2 size the one in the truck this is your problem.

is it a 4x4 or a 2wd?If it is a 4x4 remove the driver's side exhaust manifold, cut the bolts for the flange and remove it from the top.The flange bolts are just ordinary 3/8" coarse bolts,2 1/2" to 3" long you can get from any hardware or parts store.
