Weird smell (not coolant)

Alright so my sisters 91 grand marquis has the weirdest smell, out of no where it started smelling like paint thinner or almost rubbing alcohol (some kinf of chemical smell)...its the weirdest thing. It smells strong enough to give you a headache if you drive with the windows up, i told her to always drive with windows down with that kinna smell. Its nothing we dropped in the car....any help would be appreciated. I cant smell it coming from the engine bay, i can only smell it in the interior...

1-look at the obvious first. did she drop nailpolish on the floor or something similar?

2-something electrical burning from behind the dash?

3-cats starting to fail or an exhaust leak? if the cats are plugged up or the heat shield is missing they will start to melt things. they get very hot.

kind of hard to diagnose a smell over the internet. sorry. :D

If Light headed symptom occurs suggest checking for exhaust leak. Meanwhile I recommend you turn A/C Atmospheric Vent Closed to limit odor. If odor is still strong may want to tear open the Dash.

:lol2: I had a police officer bring her car in for a strong "chemical" smell in the car. come to find a can of upside down marking paint had lost its top and sprayed in the trunk. now if we could only get them to check basic stuff before bringing the cars in. :banghead: oh yeah i felt sorry for her and didnt charge for that visit.
