Key Broke off IN ignition...'97 RodeoJustineCredible 08-30-2008, 06:46 PM :crying: Ok guys, help this little lady out. My key broke off inside the ignition. Right at the weakest/thinest point of the key. Nope, I didn't twist or bend the key. Yes, I can still put in the other half the key and it works just fine, but I'm concerned that it might be draining my battery. Any suggestions on getting the broken part out without it costing me a fortune in mechanics/locksmith costs? Any extremely detailed info on attempting to remove it myself? I'm not the most automechanically inclided, but with really good directions I seem to manage fairly well. I did change my own altenator a few months ago and that seemed to work out just fine. So, I'm willing to give it a go... but please keep in mind. This is my ONLY vehicle and I really do depend on it to get me to work everyday. So whatever suggestions, advise, directions you all might have...it can't take me three days to do it. Thanks so much in advance. I'm really at a loss here.:crying: okmech1 09-03-2008, 07:36 PM Ouch, that kinda bites, but at least you can still crank it! You're probably unfortunately looking at a lock cylinder replacement, unless you can get it out by using a magnet. I don't know if this would work, but you could try and get one like this (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00940891000P) and see if by chance you can get it out.
