Transmission fluid rising, shifts late into 2ndmikmic2 08-25-2008, 03:29 AM I've got a 1994 Ford Ranger, with the 4.0 liter engine with an automatic transmission. I will try to find out what transmission it is, but I was thinking it is the A4LD, but I will find out and get back to you on that. Just recently the transmission started shifting real late into 2nd gear, but then shifts into 3rd gear with no problems. I checked the fluid, and to my suprise it shows that the fluid is about 3 quarts over full, and doesn't look like it's aerated. I was wondering if antifreeze could be entering the transmission through the cooler that runs through the radiator? Why might my fluid level in the transmission be rising, and appear to look normal to me? What could be the cause of the transmission shifting very late into 2nd gear only? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
