Buying a 93 Taurus with a Blown Head gasket!Aussie0711 03-12-2003, 07:24 PM Ok go easy on me folks. My mechanic has a 1993 Taurus GL 96000 miles that he needs to get rid of, the engines Head Gasket is blown, well my mechanic is basically giving me the car for the price of the title. ln that, should l go ahead and take the car off of his hands, l'm getting it for next to nothing, all thats needed is the labor and the parts to fix it? Any sugestions? Should l go for it, or pass??? Aussie0711 03-22-2003, 04:27 AM Well since so many of you have replied, l'm going for it. l guess while the engines out, l should replace the Timing Belt Water pump ls there anything else l'm forgetting?? kaoru-tochiro 04-16-2003, 09:50 AM Those cars weren't as bad as many think they were, I mean most of them had tranny and head gasket failures, they don't have timing belts, timing chain they have. also there was a recall to get the rear subframe bolts repaired so make sure that was done cause its dangerous to ride around and have the rear suspension assembly come off on the highway at 60 mph. Other than that you got yourself a comfortable car like a Mercedes for the price of a burger, good luck with it. MARTIN KORDOS 06-02-2004, 01:03 PM i have a 94 wagon and i put 206thousand on it befor my front seal went.runs asome still but bought a new car so buy buy taurus. i used my wagon like a pickup with no complaints Dan_in_WA 06-02-2004, 04:33 PM Which engine do you have in your '93 Taurus? That is important!!!! The 3.8L was/is known for head gasket problems, and one must use extra special care when repairing this. Assuming the 3.8L, look around for a performance head gasket from one of the aftermarket manufacturers, or you can even try www.fordracing.com and see what they have available. I wouldn't hesitate to have grabbed this car either - it is still a great deal. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
