05 Power Steering Loss

I searched for this but didn't find a posting here. If someone finds another posting on this subject, please let me know.

Wanted to alert owners of some of the older Malibus (2005 at least) that GM is aware of a power steering problem which causes a loss of power steering - for me it was usually at low speeds like when parking. At any rate, GM extended the warranty on this issue to 70,000 miles (or 7 yrs). The fix, according to GM, is to replace the steering column and the dealer will do this under warranty at no cost to the owner. Just had mine done and it seems to be working fine. You dealer should have the info on this.

I just had my steering column replaced on my '04 Maxx under GMs Extended Warranty at no cost. But it's also not covered for 7 years. No matter - car will be sold in '09 (when the warranty runs out). I can't wait to get rid of it and far away from GM.

I felt no power assist loss, but the Driver Info Center wouldn't stop bugging me about the issue.
