1994 Lesabre 120K miles

I got in the car to go to work on Friday, put the key in, got the usual ding, ding when I put the key in, warning lights on dash lit up and I turned the key, I got nothing except for a click, click, click coming from under the drivers side o the dash. Took another car to work and spent some time Saturday trying to figure out what was going on.

Battery is 3 years old with a full charge.

Alarm key fob stopped working, I put the key in and the ding, ding, ding now is slower and drawn out. Turn key, get the clicks under the drivers side and then a constant click coming from a relay near the main ECM under the pass side of the dash.

I disabled the alarm system, yet the car will not turn over. I jumpered the wire for the starter cut off and still nothing.

Not sure where to look now...any ideas?

This car has had issues over the last couple of years but it seemed to be behaving the last few months. The car has the typical 1990's paint issue (clear coat hazing) but it was OK as a commuter car. I dont want to sink alot of money into this and I want to the car to be reliable.

What to do?

Thanks

Jack

This sounds like the typical battery or cable problem. Have the battery load tested and then check the cables (inside & out of the terminal). The cables must be clean & tight!

Thanks, had the battery load tested at Kragen...really bad battery. Only 28 months old. Put the new one in and it started right up. Re-connected alarm system and everything seems to be OK for now.

Thanks a bunch

Jack
