1.9L air silencer box?Jascar60 08-17-2008, 01:16 AM Is there an air silencer box on a '95 1.9l lx wagon? If so how do you take it off? I'm trying to find some cheap ways to gain some power. Davescort97 08-17-2008, 04:09 AM Actually taking the silencer box off will give you a throaty growl, but actual HP increase may be less because the silencer box pulls cold air from the inside of the fender well. Taken off it will suck hotter air from insdie the engine compartment. It's easy to take off. 3 bolts a clamp. Jascar60 08-17-2008, 11:59 AM Ok, I was curious about where the air was coming from, but I read somewhere that you can take that off & gain power. I haven't looked at it yet, is there any way to make a heat shield or something? Davescort97 08-18-2008, 03:14 AM You can get ducting of the proper diameter and route it into the fender well. sector95 09-30-2008, 06:15 PM Is there an air silencer box on a '95 1.9l lx wagon? I did this on my '95 and found just a tad more spunk (which is nice on the relatively gutless 1.9L/auto tranny combo) and just a bit more intake noise. And that's what the engineers shoot for; low noise level from the intake tract. The engine is forced to breathe thru a hole about an inch in diameter; my 350cc dirt bike has a larger airbox intake. As to getting the "cool" outside air by leaving the stock silencer in place? Well, there's a trade off: if you keep the thing in place, you get "cool" air but you don't get enough of it ...if you remove it, you'll get warmer engine bay air but more of it. The ideal situation would be to somehow allow more of the cooler outside air into the well area that the box draws from...... Only problem was I think it was sucking some water when it rained real bad so I covered the holes up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
