2002 Buick LeSabre Battery

Is there a special method of putting a new battery into a 2002 LeSabre? I'm a car-illiterate with only basic maintenance knowledge, you see. The battery on my LeSabre recently went out, despite the claims of the manual that I should never have to replace said battery.

Market fluff sucks.

Anyways. I'd called NAPA and a few others to get a price, as well as the Buick dealership, and they're telling me something about an external vent? For a battery?! That doesn't sound right at all, but I don't want to screw up my car by going in blind. I've taken a peek at it in its mount under the backseat, and can't quite understand what they mean by external vent.

There is a vent for the batter that runs to the outside of the car as the battery iirc is parked under the rear seat..

The battery has a rubber/plastic tube that snaps on top and covers the vents at each end and the tube goes down to the floor and vents the gases under the car.

I've seen a #100 (the one required) battery at Advance Auto for roughly $125???. They will replace your battery for you.

I keep checking at Walmart but they, for some reason, don't have batteries to fit the GM cars of that group with batteries under the rear seat. I had a Walmart in my 98 for 7 years (9 year warranty) and it went bad, tested weak by them, and was replaced with pro rating with a $60 battery (2/9 paid by them). Great battery, and I'd buy one for my 03 if they had it.

I also just replaced my original under the rear seat AC Delco battery with a new AC Delco battery - 60 series (ACD 78-60) and I need to find the vent tubing somewhere myself. The tubing for the original battery both didn't fit the new one and had snapped on one side.

The AC Delco site is useless in finding this tubing. Any ideas for some other online place that this can be gotten from? Thanks.

Check with your local hardware store, they usually stock Tygon tubing. Check ID & OD first, or take a sample of the old tubing with you.

Napa had a direct fit battery for my 03 Les.

Thanks - I will check the hardware store for sure as well Napa. My two cents - it just seems like the tubing should come with the battery if it is going to need be vented out of the undercarriage. It's obviously corrosive since it ate through the tubing on my old battery. If all else fails I guess I will be making something to fit it so it doesn't eat my seatbelts.

Thanks for the help.

select your car year and model. Then select electrical. Then select battery. $12.11 + shipping.

Also check rockauto.com

Are there any other sources? NAPA? Just go to a dealer.

Thanks - that's very helpful. The vent tube in the illustration does look like the one that came with the original battery. However, the new Delco series 60 battery has the vent tubes further back from away from the posts and the holes are slightly different so that the tubing from the original doesn't click into place the same way. That being said I think I should be able to find the newer one on the gmpartsdirect site.

Thanks.
