Laguna II, should I buy one

Hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me.

I have heard a lot of bad things about the Laguna II reliability and need some advice.

I am currently looking at buying a 2007 Laguna II and have heard that the re-vamped Laguna II from 2005 onwards had much better quality control and a number of changes to improve reliability.

So my question is: from the experiance of the forum, has this made a big difference, or are even the last cars coming off the Laguna II production line suffering from poor reliability?:crying:

Also, I hear that the 1.9 dCi (130), has 9000 mile service intervals. Is this really the case? It seems very short to me. Are these services a cut down version of the service or are they big services which are going to bankrupt me? :2cents:

Thanks all.

Cheers

My first post here too...

I've just sold my late 2005 Laguna.
It was the 1.9 dci 120 model. When I sold it, it had 106,000 miles on the clock, I'd done over 70,000 of those myself.

It was a reliable car, never failed to start and it never broke down on me.
It required servicing every 18,000 miles.
However, the servicing costs were high, and the problem I has with it were always due to suspension/steering etc:
Rear axles bushes had to be replaced
Broken suspension spring

After about 80,000 it never felt right, like the steering was drifting and something was about to drop off, though the garage never found anything.

When I got rid of it, I'd just had a driveshaft replaced as the gator had split and there was no lubrication left, which messed it up.
It was like sitting on a bus when it was idling as well at this point. The garage said that there was probably an injector fault present, and it would be a costly investigation and fix.

That was when I decided to sell it.

Would I buy another one? No.
Reliable enough, and if you don't mind spending on the servicing then fine, but I wanted something with cheaper running costs.

Hope that helps!

Don't buy one, hard suspension, 3 broken springs, rear bushes went, front bushes went, all disks replaced, all at high cost, now instruments, panel instruments and lights failed, hoping its a connector [but!!!], good/excellent dci 1.9 engine on 50k miles 2001. Nice designed body, good on fuel 50+, awfull undercarriage, suspect electronics (now)

This post was a while ago so just in case anyone else is looking for advice I would urge you to read the following before going ahead.

I have a similar opinion to one of the other posts in that it's a nice car, reasonable to drive although does leap around a bit on country roads. I can get around 52 mpg on the motorway at 70ish and 47mpg when driven harder on country roads / harder acceleration.

My Laguna 1.9dCi has now done over 100k and is costing an absolute fortune. The rear brakes have a hub bearing with them which should make the labour cost less due to the lower fitting time although the parts are much more expensive than a standard disc.

Servicing is every 18000 and reasonable at around #100 pounds if you avoid the main dealer. I have had black smoke for a period of time. This seemed to fix itself after a while so I suspect an intermittent fault with the EGR valve.(Someone else mentioned that these can stick).

The lower engine mount has also shaken itself to bits.

I recently had a flat battery which seemed fair enough even though the car is less than 4 years old. Then the problems started big time. The car wouldn't recognise any of the key cards and, once in through the passenger door with the spare key, still wouldn't recognise the key card in the slot.

After being recovered to the local Renault dealer (A pain in itself as the handbrake and steering lock are electric so won't come off!!) and several days later, I am told I need a new body control unit at over #400 pounds before the fault codes can even be read. Two days later and the fault codes say the ECU has expired and needs to be changed - 10 days more to wait for the part and nearly #700 pounds more!!!

So the flat battery has so far cost me #1100+.

I have tried to contact Renault customer services who so far haven't had the courtesy to call me back!

So a word of warning - this is apparently fairly common if your battery gets too flat. Also don't try to jump start the car as this can apparently blow all the electrics as well.

I wish I could be more positive as I was pretty impressed with the car to start with. Now after only 8 months, I can't wait to get rid of it!

Answer NO , my previous write-up, I got as far as hoping the instrument panel was a connector, oh dear, new panel put in at just a, £500, not a happy bunny. Oh yes the keycard went faulty too, off to that chappy in the west country, he's good.
Thought I would be good and put a new rear tyre on Feb 2009 as mot for 3yrs keep telling me I'm close to min tread depth, so decided to get an oil chnge, and would u believe it, Kwick-Fit do a air-con recharge for £25, had that done as mine had vanished after nearly 8yrs [so now u know the air-con is good], 1 point to renault, BUT k-w, looking for bussiness, do a minni mot, and try to get me to get a front tyre AAAAAAnd, wait for it---------- The front nearside gaitors split, :banghead: that little chappy bashing his brain out is me and its going to cost me another £93.33. All this on a Mr.Blair/Brown pension.
THIS VE-HICLE IS A BOTTOMLESS MONEY PIT, I had car the press hated, and I ran for 8 yrs, no problem, a ROVER 827, oh please come back ROVER.
I'd love to get rid of this xxx!!!!!xxx, who would buy it, renault wont, then when u look at blogs on any car u fancy, it seems they all have very expensive faults, that the car industry dont rectify, so I would like a car minus the electronics, that I can work on, at least in the long run it would be more enviromentally more friendly than than this modern junk.

Have a good day all u good folks out there, ----if renault will let u-----
