Steering ProblemsWayne Parsons 03-12-2003, 11:57 AM I drive a 1997 GMC Sierra 2WD Short Box Extended Cab. Just recently my steering has starting acting a little strange - it sort of gives me a quick "grabbing and releasing" or sudden jerking sensation mostly when travelling on the Highway. I believe it may be caused by a faulty steering position sensor. I would like to know if this is very difficult to replace and what precautions I should take. Thanks WarEaglePop 03-06-2004, 10:34 AM I have the same problem with my 4x4! Mike_C 03-07-2004, 01:35 PM My son had a similar problem with his Suburban. It was a faulty steering position sensor. Don't know what's involved in replacement; he didn't attempt to repair it himself, but had a mechanic do it. chuxted 03-20-2004, 11:34 PM I have never heard of a steering position sensor and I have owned a 97 Sierra since 97. The best thing to do is check with GM and with GM recall lists. I have read that the problem could be related to the steering gear or power steering pump. Check there first. 03sp500 03-24-2004, 07:50 PM its a sensor located at the bottom of the steering column should take any person with basic mech skills 20 mins very easy to change. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
