Just thought I'd share a cathartic post about my experience recently with my first lease. I did a bunch of research beforehand and knew with pretty good certainty how much a "good" lease would be (low for me, still good margins for the dealer). I was nervous at first, wondering if I'd be able to talk/act with the knowledge I had. I was extremely confident when the guy made his first offer to me, because I laughed out loud, knowing how ridiculously high the first quote was.

This made me realize I was more than ready for this experience, and went to another dealer. I walked in, told them I was ready to lease the car, and what my expectations were. The guy there was understanding and aware that I was sure of what I wanted, and we were able to get a lease that made us both happy.

Bottom line: don't be nervous. For some reason I acted like the dealer had some control over me, and I'm sure this is how people end up spending a lot on their cars. Do a little research and be assertive. If a dealer can't handle that, they don't deserve your business!

If most buyers would follow in your footsteps having done homework, thousands upon thousands of consumers today would not be stuck with a lease they don't understand, excellent post

Very well put! People these days leave themselves wide open to be ripped off and expect the sellers not to take advantage of them.
