I took my 01 Lesabre to the dealer for a check engine light evaluation. They determined the vent solenoid is sticking intermittently and the fuel tank pressure sensor is reading erratic. They quoted $157 to replace the vent solenoid and $165 for the pressure sensor. I will replace the parts myself and the dealer suggested I start with the vent solenoid. Can both parts be replaced throught the access panel in the trunk or will the tank need to be dropped? I suppose the only place to purchase these parts is through a dealer. Thanks

You should be able to replace the fuel tank pressure sensor via the access cover over the fuel pump assembly. The pressure sensor should be mounted on the top of the pod. The sensor is easy to replace and secures just like the MAP sensor at the upper intake manifold (UIM). One electrical connector. Similar in design. See pic below. Pressure sensor is the component in black.

The vent solenoid should be located at the evaporative emissions charcoal cannister area back by the gas tank.

BTW - You do not need to remove the fuel pump assembly as depicted in the pic to replace the pressure sensor.

you can access the pressure sensor throught he trap door in the trunk. but the vent solenoid is a black box a little smaller than a pencil box with hoses going to it usually nea the filler neck. i am kinda surprised at the diagnosis that code means a large leak is detected. usually set by leavig the gas cap off or loose while the car is running or even a bad seal or bad cap.
