94 camaro Z28
Broke some teeth off the pinion gear the other day. I ordered a new ring and pinion that is a 4.10 ratio. Wondered if anyone has some input/advice for setting up pinion depth and preload etc. I have a dial indicator, thats it as far as special differential tools go. I am an auto technician so you can be technical, i'll understand. The shop I work at doesn't mess with rearends and its been a while since I have. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

There is not much I can add theat you probably already don't already know.
I have found that contact pattern pics as seen here (http://www.differentials.com/install.html) are the most useful guide for final set - up.

Oh, and my first efforts in setting up gear sets also required this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawdust)and these. (http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/) for highway use.

Yeah, I just used all the old shims in the same spots for a starting point. Seemed to work out ok. Quieter than it was before. Thanks.
